Shade is a quartet of talented musicians playing a
specialized blend of contemporary instrumental music with a
taste of the past. Their repertoire includes original
compositions by saxophonist David Schrader and
keyboardist Wayne De La Cruz along with their own
arrangements of smooth jazz, jazz standards and pop and
R&B hits. Shade creates a distinctive sound for a
discerning listener.
David Schrader – Saxophones
For over 20 years, David has been with the San Francisco
Saxophone Quartet. He also performs with the San
Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera. He has an
impressive list of professional references and makes his
living in Sonoma County, playing Rock & Roll, Funk, Rhythm
& Blues, and Jazz.
Wayne De La Cruz - Hammond Organ, Piano,
Keyboards
Bay area native Wayne De La Cruz is an extraordinary and
versatile keyboardist with a true ability to make the music
happen in any situation. Since 1973, he has recorded,
arranged, composed and produced as well. Over the years
he has gained a high reputation as side man and for his
Hammond B-3 organ expertise as well as his piano and
multi-keyboard ability. Wayne has performed shows as
accompanist with Maria Muldaur, Mary Wells, The Mills
Bros, Mimi Fox (jazz guitarist), Terri Lynn Carrington (jazz
drummer) and Allison Miller (jazz drummer) to name a few.
Kurt Medeiros - Drums
Kurt has worked as a professional studio musician for
years. His list of recordings includes commercials, films and
shows. He has also performed with the Coasters, the
Drifters, and the Diamonds and toured with Showdown
throughout the United States and Canada.
Carl Bowers - Bass Guitar, Electric Upright Bass,
Tenor Trombone
Carl has been a performing artist most of his life. By the
age of 18 he had played flute and trombone with jazz greats
David Baker and Dizzy Gillespie. Drawn to the groove, he
became a working bassist at age 14. He has played shows
with the Aldridge Sisters (Lawrence Welk), Louis Mandrell,
Jerry Lewis, and many more.
